Showers of Blessings

Well, in case you haven’t heard…the Lord blessed Southern California with rain this week! We are so thankful for this change in weather, since our state is currently experiencing a severe drought.

I had fun enjoying the wet weather these past few days: I listened to the sound of the rain from the comfort of my home, and I even ventured out to run some errands (and managed to get thoroughly drenched in the process!).

It is especially fun to watch those of us in the high desert react to the rain. We don’t know how to drive in it very well (especially since the water causes major flooding due to the hardened, dry ground). We flood social media with posts about water falling from the sky. And, we try to manage umbrellas that are worthless with the howling winds that accompany our storms!

Perhaps the one response that stood out the most to me this week was the number of people I saw taking pictures of the rain! From the church parking lot to the Target parking lot, I saw people snapping pictures of this special event. (And, yes, I may have been one of them!)

As I watched people capturing the blessing of rain, I thought to myself, “I wonder how many blessings have I failed to capture with a thankful heart?” It’s so easy (and also good) to remember to thank the Lord for the big blessings. But, sometimes, we we fail to thank Him for the common, everyday blessings.

God showers us with goodness every single day. Psalm 69:18 reminds us that He “daily loadeth us with benefits.” Have you paused to capture these benefits? Not to just take them and move along with your busy day…but, to offer heartfelt gratitude for the specific kindnesses He demonstrates so faithfully?

If it’s been awhile, I hope that you’ll join me in renewing your gratitude this week. Thank the Lord for His gifts – great and small! You might even want to take pictures of His blessings or record them in a “blessing journal.” Let’s commit to thanking the Lord for His wonderful goodness to His children in the days ahead.

Have a wonderful week!

Psalm 69:18,”Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.”
